The Carbon-Neutral Milk Living Laboratory (CNMLL) is a large-scale innovation initiative aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of dairy farms across Quebec. Led by Les Producteurs de lait du Québec and supported by Novalait and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the project brings together more than 40 researchers and 20 participating farms. Its mission: to test, evaluate, and share beneficial management practices that help move the dairy sector toward carbon neutrality.

Goal

Develop a modern, educational, and accessible platform that clearly presents the Carbon-Neutral Milk Living Laboratory’s approach, fields of action, scientific findings, and participating teams. The website needed to accommodate various types of content, offer a smooth navigation experience, and allow the CNMLL team to manage and publish information independently.

Strategic analysis

We began the project with an in-depth UX analysis focused on the needs of the CNMLL, the scientific nature of the content, and the diversity of visitor profiles. The main challenge was to organize a significant amount of technical information into a simple, intuitive, and easily navigable structure. This led to an architecture centered around three key pillars: the approach, the fields of action, and the teams.

Art direction

The site features a soft, bright, and contemporary art direction. A palette of blues, greens, yellows, and oranges evokes nature and collaboration. All illustrations were created by Kryzalid to represent concepts in a simple, cohesive, and visually engaging way. The design emphasizes readability, clarity, and accessibility through generous spacing and modern typography.

Design and features

An intuitive navigation system organizes content around the scientific approach, fields of action, and participating teams while a fixed lateral sub navigation allows users to explore more detailed pages. The clean design, custom-made illustrations and consistent layout ensure a smooth experience throughout the site.
